Department of passport has informed that passport with more than one year validity will not be elegible for renewal.
Issuing a statement, department has urged passport holders not to apply for new passport or renewal if their passport still has a validity more than one year. Department has informed that only Machine Readable Passports (MRP) eith less than one year validity can apply for renewal and a passport holder with more than 6 months validity can travel abroad.
Also department has clarified that it is not mandatory to renew passport if an individual is not planning to visit abroad in near future and no additional charge will be outlayed in case of passport expiry. With new Epassport being distributed by passport department people have been reapplying even with valid passports.
Various manpower agencies have been suggesting public to apply for new passport with more than 2 or more years validity. People have even disclosed that agencies are teaching people to deliberately destroy or lose their passport to get a renewed one.
