World Bank Approves Loan For Butwal-Gorusinghe-Chanauta Road Expansion

World bank has approved $275 million loan for expansion of Butwal-Gorusinghe-Chaunauta road.

69 Km long Butwal-Gorusinghe-Chaunauta portion of east-west highway will be upgraded to 4 lanes from existing 2 lanes. After upgrade, the travelling time will be reduced by 30% which will ease access road to western borders of India. World bank believed that the expansion project will enhance trade and custom processes in Bhairahawa and Birjung custom.

The road section to be upgraded will start from Tinau Bridge of Butwal and end at Balewa Garda khola. Existing 7-8 meter road will be expanded to 24 meter in rural and forest areas, 33 meter in semi urban areas and 50 meter in city areas along with a service lane. The road was previously built under concessional loan of World Bank as well.

Government will also invest 10% of total cost for expansion while World Banks loan will cover 90% of total expense.
