CCP’s Intl Liasion Head To Visit Nepal

Chinese Communist Party’s recently appointed International Liasion Head, Liu Jianchao will visit Nepal on Sunday.

Jianchao’s visit will be 4 days long with meeting scheduled with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and all prominent leaders from different parties. He will also meet with KP Sharma Oli, chairman of major opposition party CPN UML. Jianchao had recently assumed his office as international liasion head from first week of June.

China had played a major role in bringing together major communist forces together in last election. This visit is also deemed meaningful with government preparing to annouce election date in few days. Election Commission already submitted its formal proposal to hold election of HoR and PA on November 20 later this year.

China has also expressed disatisfaction about growing American influence in Nepali politics. It vocally showed its discontent during MCC bill issue. Issues like MCC and SPP has made CCP suspicious about Nepali politics getting into hands of US. US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Ziya’s visit to Tibetan refugee camp is another issue that has concerned China.

With KP Sharma Oli led communist government in power, China had seemingly expanded its influence in Nepal. As per their understanding, China will be willing to create similiar coalition between communist parties which will automatically rule out US influence.
