Cholera Spreading In Kathmandu, 17 Cases Confirmed

Cholera has been spreading in Kathmandu since last two weeks.

As of Friday, 17 cases of cholera are confirmed in the city. According to MoHP, cholera cases have been identified in more than 7 locations of Kathmandu. The first case was seen in Bagbazar and after that cases have been confirmed in Dillibazar, Balkhu, Ghattekulo, Bohoratar, Budanilkantha and Kalopul area as well.

As rainy season has just begun, and Kathmandu has a huge problem of unmanaged drinking water supply system, cholera might spread significantly in coming days. MoHP earlier claimed that the outbreak of chlolera in Kathmandu was due contaminated drinking water.

As cholera cases increase, Health Ministry has urged public to boil water before drinking. Also ministry requested people to adopt safe healthy practices to be safe from water-borne diseases that may spead during rainy season.
