Government has revoked citizenship ordinance from parliament today.
Home Minister Balkrishna Khand proposed to take back the ordinance which was supported by majority and endorsed by HoR. The ordinance that was registered in HoR back in 2075 was forwarded by Oli government in 2077 B.S. Amid political turmoil, Oli dissolved parliament and endorsed the bill from president. However Supreme Court issuee stay order against the bill and thus was yet to be formally endorsed.
The ordinance has been amended multiple times with issues arising every times from disatisfied side. Lately the ordinance had a provision for naturalised citizenship if a woman marriages a Nepali citizen and stays in Nepal for seven years.
Madhesi parties and Nepali Congress were against this provision and expressed their dissatisfaction with State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. After taking back ordinance government is preparing to put forward another citizenship bill without 7 years provision.
