World Bank To Provide $80M For Drinking Water And Sanitation

World Bank has agreed provide 80 million dollars to improve drinking water supply and sanitation projects as concessional loan in two provinces of Nepal.

Madhu Kumar Marasini, Finance Secretary of Nepal and Faris Hadad-Zervos, World Bank Country Director for Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka signed the agreement on behalf of two sides. The concessional loan will aim to improve drinking water supply and sanitation services and promote integrated water resources management in strategic towns and rural municipalities of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

After signing the agreement, Marasini said that the project will support the provision of much-needed water supply and sanitation services to underserved and vulnerable communities, ensure better water sector coordination, and promote higher water quality and service standards.

Similarly Zervos expressed his belief that the project will help strengthen the delivery of water and sanitation services at the local level by building the capacity of municipalities, while at the same time addressing critical gaps in water and sanitation infrastructure to support Nepal’s economic progress and a green, resilient, and inclusive development.
